  • Majestic Fortune

Majestic Fortune is the name of this fantastic daylily that is blooming right now in my garden. Pretty amazing for the middle of September. I'm thrilled with it because it is not only blooming at a time when hardly any daylilies are, but it is one of the most beautiful daylilies I've seen.

  • State Fair

Gill, Chris, and I went to the Fair today.  We planned it some time ago and as the day got closer, the rain chances got higher. We did get sprinkled on a few times, but considering the fact that they were predicting 2 to 4 inches of rain today, we lucked out big time. I can't really say that I got that many good pictures, but we had a good time, and I did get a few shots that were worth keeping. It was the first day of the fair and most of the animals were not even on display yet -- but then, we only had to pay one dollar to get in because it was opening day. That's Gill in the shot below.  Isn't she cute?

  • Saturday Shots

Helianthus 'Multiflorus' is the botanical name of this double sunflower. It is really doing well. When the blossoms fade, I deadhead it and it puts on more and more flowers. I think it may be invasive, but so far I'm not sorry I've given it garden space. The flower below that is a Americacrinum Lily Fred Howard, a cross between a hardy amaryllis and a crinum lily.  This is its first scape of the season, but the buds seem to be never ending.

  • Rosie Joy

I thought it was about time I posted another picture of Rosie Joy. I've enhanced the picture a bit, but this looks very typical. She is watching the world outside the office window. She will be 8 months old in a few days and is doing well, despite a proclivity for putting all sorts of nasty things in her mouth. Her appetite for actual food is not so good, but she continues to grow and has enough energy for two puppies.

She is completely house trained now, thanks to a cow bell that we have hung by the door. It didn't take her anytime at all to learn that whenever she wants our attention, a pat or two on the bell will do the trick. There are times when she rings the bell when she just wants us to play with her, but usually she wants to go outside. Rosie hasn't had one accident on the rug since we hung the bell by the door. I think there had been lots of times when she would go to the door, and when no one noticed, she would go on the rug. She just needed a way to let us know when she wanted something.

  • I won't be driving for about a week. I discovered last weekend that my driver's license expired back in March. My insurance agent used to always send me a birthday card with a reminder to renew... but he died since I renewed my license in 2004. I should check it myself, of course, but since I've always gotten a reminder in the past, it just never occurred to me.

Anyway, it is a lot more complicated than it used to be if you let it expire. In Oklahoma, you have to present a certified birth certificate issued by the state where you were born. Since I was born in Illinois, I will have to wait until one can be mailed to me. At least I was able to apply for it online. Otherwise it would be over a month.

  • Clematis

My patio clematis is looking like spring again. Below is a shot I took this morning and played with in Photoshop.

  • Two Nutcrackers

Here are two of the digital nuts "Nutcrackers" for this week. As you may remember we are given 7 images every week to manipulate any way we wish. The goal is to produce art from the raw material in the photos. You can check out the originals we started with this week here
