  • Checking In...

At this point, I don't recall what I've posted and what I haven't. Lots more, I suspect that I haven't posted, but instead of waiting to get things all organized, I'm just choosing some random photos taken recently in the garden.

From top to bottom and left to right the lilies are Patchwork Puzzle, Beautiful Edging, Chevron Spider, Bonanza, Spacecraft Stirrups, Gentle Shepherd, and the last is Bright Sunset.

It's been a long stretch of being very busy -- some very difficult things to get through and some very enjoyable. I work a little every day trying to get Mother's affairs straightened out. It is probably pretty simple compared to the usual things one faces when someone dies, but I have never been the executor -- or the equivalent -- of an estate before, and there is a lot I don't know. Actually, my husband takes care of most of our financial affairs, and so there is a lot I don't know -- period. I know, I know, I really should make it a project to learn about our investments, etc. But it is so easy to just let it slide and say I'll get to that later. There are so many other things Id rather be doing.

I really enjoyed my friend Kathy's visit. (this is her under the arbor in the picture below. She's been my friend forever -- well, since high school, which seems like forever. We had a good relaxing time really. Played scrabble (and , NO,  I did not win a single game while she was here.) We also watched movies down at Chris's house -- I think twice a day. And of course, we ate. Three of my favorite things to do.

Gill is in the last picture -- isn't she cute? She came over yesterday to see the garden and talk, and we counted that as our June outing. Since the last month has been such an eventful one in our family, it was the kind of thing I needed. When I was younger I managed to balance dozens of things and could take the  complexities of life in stride. Seems as I get older, it takes me longer to bounce back from even fun events that are not part of our usual routine. With mother dying, the funeral, the estate sale, my brother's visit, etc... well, I'm ready for some down time.

Find of the Day: For those who take life too seriously.

  • I left a post on Lola's site. I'm sorry to hear about Lola and had to go back several pages to read. She, you, Chris and Gil are delightful and I so enjoy looking and reading. Hope life is getting a little easier. It took such bravery and love to stay with your mom during those last moments. What a joy! We should all be so blessed!

  • I love looking at your lilies no matter how often you post pics of them. They always bring a smile to my face. Thanks for sharing.

  • Thanks for sharing the lovely pics, Alice.    And I hope you are breaking the surface after having such an overwhelming time.     Getting through the rough patches is hard.    I love the link.     So many truisms.
