Freezing rain -- snow -- sleet -- we've had it all, as much of the rest of the country has. It is thawing today finally, and I hope enough that when night falls along with the the temperatures, there will not be enough slush still on the roads and sidewalks to freeze into ice again. I took the picture from which this image was derived soon after the freezing rain that covered everything in ice, including the plumes of the pampas grass outside the back fence. Those birds are waiting their turn at the bird feeder my husband keeps filled with birdseed -- especially on cold winter days.

Why is it that ice storms are always so beautiful to photograph? Terrible to drive through, though. We only got the snow from this storm system, the ice must have run out by the time it reached upstate NY. Take care.
Alice, that picture is stunning!!!!!!

Spectacular Alice! I hoped to get out and take photos of the ice but never quite managed.
@Gill_L - I didn't get out to take any pictures of the ice either, Gill. I just took a few from the window.
What a nice picture
Do you keep a heater in a bird bath?
@BLB - I never heard of heating a bird bath. How would one do that?
There used to be small electric heaters you could put in them. Low voltage but I imagine a long cord would be needed. Look here: http://www.google.com/products?q=bird+bath+heaters&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&resnum=1&ct=title
