96° and rising
Our temperatures in Oklahoma are soaring like it is in many other parts of the country. Some places that are not used to such extreme heat are even hotter. We are resigning ourselves to the end of our unusually mild wet weather. We haven't had a rain for over two weeks, and we are finally experiencing our normal summer weather. So -- I've been watering the garden as I finished up planting the irises I dug last week. I do have that project finished at last. I hope I've managed to rid my garden of the iris rot that decimated my iris beds this season -- but it would be a minor miracle if I did. If we don't have a rainy summer next year, perhaps it will be manageable, anyway. Since I've only planted one iris bed this time instead of five, I might be able to stay on top of it.
Below is Sweet Autumn Clematis that is beginning to bloom on the back fence. It's curious that the part of the vine that is blooming is the part I had to keep cutting back because it was growing onto the gate. The rest of the vine is budding, but very few blooms yet. Seems kind of early this year.

Below is some red verbena I have growing in a pot on the patio. It's been blooming on and off since Spring. It seems to have to rest for a while between its bloom periods.

The clematis is very pretty. My verbena finally got going after all the wet weather. I have red, white and blue in one pot and purple in another. I found another caterpillar egg this AM on my parsley and a frog in the kids wading pool!
